Random Thoughts on Glee and Supernatural

Glee, as always, was so much fun.  The musical numbers were outstanding as usual, with the high moment of comedy was Emma in her wedding dress practicing dancing with Will to the "Thong Song".  It was also interesting to see Sue temporarily turn over a new leaf when she was interested in the anchor and thought she was going to go swing dancing with him.  Everybody always looks like they are having so much fun when doing these musical numbers.   It makes me want to join in even though I can't sing or dance.  Will breaking it down to "Busta Move" was an instant classic.  Its clear the writers have a clear vision for the first 13 episodes.  The question remains how do they deal with the back 9?  Hopefully they didn't write themselves into a situation that is too difficult to write themselves out of.  The writers for Buffy the Vampire Slayer did this to some degree after Buffy died at the end of Season 5.  I also feel like the writers for Leverage wrote themselves into a corner after their first season.  It took a while for Leverage to get that smooth flow back. 

As for Supernatural, I've been loving this show for a long time.  I really feel like Eric Kripke and his crew have had a pretty good idea where they wanted to go with this series for a while now.  The introduction of Angels into the show mythology last year raised the stakes to a whole new level.  This year with Lucifer being free from hell,  the writers have taken things to a natural place when you have angels and demons running around: The Apocalypse.  I love how they show Lucifer.  He portrays himself as a sympathetic creature to his prey, and uses guilt and manipulation of the facts to convince someone that what he wants is not only good, but in their best long-term interest.


Another interesting element introduced last season was the prophet Chuck.  He is writing down everything that happens to the Winchester Brothers in a book series.  They paid this off nicely with the character Becky, who writes "slash" fan fiction based off the "Supernatural Book Series".  It should be interesting how they continue to pay off all these little quirky elements they have introduced into the Mythology.

Tonight another SGU will air.  I will be watching for more female character development, especially the ones who should be by virtue of their training, be over the shock of being on Destiny hundred of millions of light years from Earth.
